International Women's Day

The below reflection for International Women's Day has been written by Rev'd Helen Cameron.

International Women's Day is marked on 8th March 2024.

The theme for International Women's Day 2024 isInspire Inclusion.

When we inspire others to understand and value women's inclusion, we forge abetter world. When women themselves are inspired to be included, there's a sense of belonging, relevance, and empowerment.

I wanted to share with you something of the person who inspired me as a young woman to believe I was called to be a minister, a teacher and a theologian. Her name is Rev’d Professor Frances Young. When the only ministers I knew were men, all wonderful, kind and encouraging men, Frances was the first female minister and theologian I encountered. She helped me feel visible, included and worthy. She taught me as an undergraduate and her writing has continued to influence me. Her reflections on the inclusion of those living with disabilities in the body of Christ have been particularly important.

Prayer for International Women’s Day:

Holy God we are all made in your image and likeness. We thank you for the women who have influenced and inspired us to include all your people in the body of Christ –just as you do. May we be so bold. Amen.
