Discipleship & Ministries Learning Network

East Central Team

There are three districts covered by the East Central Region: Lincolnshire, Nottingham & Derby and Northampton. There are 4.5 DMLN posts within this region including one Regional Co-ordinator and 3.5 Learning and Development Officers. As well as working more broadly, each post-holder has a remit for one of three specialist areas of development: Church and Community, Discipleship and Ministry.

Learning & Development Officer – full-time | Jane Bingham | Church and Community

Jane has worked within the learning and development field for the Methodist Church for a number of years and as a consequence has been involved in many initiatives including a gathered model of LP training. Prior to that she worked as a training professional & manager, amongst other things, in the public and private sectors including the worlds of banking, outsourced customer service, power generation, the NHS and the civil service. Although a Midlands girl at heart, she has been an honorary Yorkshire woman for 25 years and worships at Sprotbrough Methodist Church in the Sheffield District. The great loves of her life are the cinema, chocolate, music (occasionally folky) and her teenage daughter although not necessarily in that order.

Learning & Development Officer – full-time | Gill Thomas | Church and Community

Gill started out her working life with Lancashire Careers Service until her early 20's when she took up a District Training Development Worker post working across the Liverpool District (funded by Joseph Rank Benevolent Trust) and qualified as a Youth & Community Worker. After spending 8 years within the statutory Youth Service in Wiltshire and Northumberland, Gill moved into the world of FE where she lectured in Youth Work, Play Work, Drugs Awareness, Early Years and Health & Social Care at Northumberland College. Following a move to North East Lincolnshire in 2010, Gill became Area Youth Work Co-ordinator for Airplay (a national project delivering play & youth work at RAF Stations) where she gained a real understanding of military communities. Gill is married to Rob, a Primary School teacher, and has one son, Max. She lives in Grimsby where she is a Local Preacher 'on trial' and Christian Aid campaigner. She enjoys films, books, travelling, walking, cooking and spending time with her family.

Learning & Development Officer – full-time | Nigel Pimlott | Discipleship Development

Nigel has spent much of his adult life working with young people, youth workers, churches and community organisations, most notably for Frontier Youth Trust. As a trainer, thinker, strategist and coach he has a passion for mission, innovation, creativity and helping people make a difference in the world. He has written several books, most notably Youth Work After Christendom, Glimpses, and Embracing the Passion. He currently lives in a village near Newark where he is involved in his local church and community. He is married to Sue, who is a headteacher, and enjoys gardening, cooking, yoga, listening to music and supporting Manchester City. His MA examined models of participation and his PhD considered faith-based youth work and social policy, exploring the principles of human flourishing and the common good.

Learning & Development Officer – full-time | Adam Sanders | Discipleship Development

Adam joined the DMLN team in 2016 after four years as the Mission and Development worker at Central Hall in Coventry. In this role he was responsible for worship development and work with young adults alongside many other areas in the life of the church. Adam is a preacher, a jazz pianist, an aspiring biblical scholar and he pastors a new congregation in Birmingham called Jazz Community Church. He has a particular passion for discipleship, contemplative spirituality, church growth, lay ministry and new forms of church. Adam enjoys listening to jazz, doing DIY, playing music with his wife, Steph, and drinking coffee!
